2007 Sand In Your Boots Living History Event Photographs

These photographs were taken during our very own 2007 'Sand In Your Boots' Living History Event.

A "living History" is an educational event comprised of historical presentations and interaction with visitors organized by different groups of re-enactors, in order to commemorate a special day, or series of events in WWII history. We teach the public about South Florida's WWII history and why it is important to never forget the war, the reasons leading to it, and the sacrifice of those who fought to liberate the world from oppression and tyranny.

This living history event was organized to teach the public about the use of Miami Beach hotels as barracks and headquarters for troops during WWII. The beaches from Miami all the way up to Fort lauderdale, were used by the U.S. armed forces to train troops for amphibious landings as well as standard basic training. The Normandy invasion on D-Day woul not have been possible if it wasn't for South Florida's coastline.
